I graduated from Angelo State University in May of 1997 with an MBA in Accounting. The week of graduation I took and passed the CPA exam on the first try and have been working as a consulting Certified Public Accountant ever since.
I have worked in a variety of industries from communications and electric utilities to construction and real estate. I recently formed my own public accounting firm with the goal of providing controller services to small to medium-sized businesses who are too small to hire a controller full time. I visit them on a weekly or monthly basis to supervise their accounting personnel, provide financial statements and analysis to them, and help them with any questions or problems they might have interfacing with the other financial professionals in their arena.
In September of 2005, my son, a Microsoft Certified Professional, joined my practice because we realized that for small and medium-sized businesses the synergy between IT and accounting is key. Without the proper IT infrastructure, even an expensive, first-rate accounting system won't be an effective tool. Likewise, unless a company has proper accounting support, even the most advanced technology will be worthless.
